The Office of Trademark Licensing provides information, guidelines, and procedures related to the use of Duke's trademarks, in a manner that protects the integrity of the institution's trademarks and ensures such trademarks are used in an appropriate manner. Duke's Trademark Licensing Program is administered by Duke's Office of Trademark Licensing and overseen by the Director of Trademark Licensing.

Our mission is to protect and promote the name(s), images, symbols, logos, and trademarks that are associated with Duke University's name and its reputation as one of the finest universities in the world.

INTERNAL REQUEST PROCESS

Duke's Trademark Licensing Policy requires that all items bearing any of Duke's names, trademarks, logos or images, be purchased from only Duke Licensees.

In March 1998, Duke became the first university in the country to develop and adopt a Code of Conduct that included a blueprint for independent external monitoring for manufacturers of products bearing its trademarks.

DUKE TRADEMARKS

Duke's trademarks include, but are not limited to: the words DUKE, Duke University, Blue Devils; logos such as the Iron Duke D, the Blue Devil, the Duke Shield; and distinctive campus locations such as Duke Chapel, Cameron Indoor Stadium, the Sarah P. Duke Gardens, and Duke's distinctive architecture.

DISCLOSED FACTORIES

In 1998, Duke became the first University in the country to require its licensees to publicly disclose the names, address and contact information for factories that produce items bearing Duke's name and trademarks.
